The artist

Portraits of the people she knows.

Mukisa is a Congolese (DRC) visual artist based in Melbourne, working in oil, acrylic and photography. She paints the people and communities she belongs to in saturated, unapologetic colour. She grew up watching African communities get represented one way while living another: with humour, style, tenderness and defiance. Her work closes that gap.
